Home Sweet Home
I am so glad to finally be back in the US and with my friends and family after my long venture away. Thanks for keeping up with all my craziness this semester! Cant wait to catch up with you too!
Switzerland!!!
Last weekend, I went to Switzerland to visit my friend Fabienne whom I had met in New York this summer! It was a fabulous weekend. I am always so glad when I get the opportunity to reconnect with someone that I was unsure if I would ever get to see again. I had an interesting start to my day because I missed my first train..thank goodness for Eurostar trains! But once I made it back to the land of beautiful snow-capped mountains, I was extremely happy! Fabienne was right there in the little tiny town or Arth-Goldau waiting for me
We went straight on to the venue where she was performing that night. It was so nice to see her perform a Broadway review with a men’s choir and a guy that graduated from Juilliard. After the show, we went on back to her apartment which is in the outskirts of Sempach and right around the corner from Luzern. It is on a different lake and from her living room, she has the perfect view of the town, lake, and mountains. The next day, we went to her family’s house. It was so interesting for me to be able to see homelife of a different culture not to mention that her house was in the best location in the world. From her living room, a picture perfect view of mt. Pilatus awaits you! PERFECTION! Her family was so nice to me even though I cannot speak a lick of German and they didnt really understand any of my English. Luckily, her dad speaks a bit of Italian! We had a nice relaxing day which was exactly what I needed from all the built up stress of juries, finals, and other issues here. We went on a walk around her house and up the road to have the best view of the alps that exists…rigi on your left, pilatus on your right! All the while, I was thinking,” just a little over a year ago, i was up there looking down on all this countryside, and now I am getting the other perspective and loving it too!” Then she was performing again that night! After the show, we hung out with the choir in the restaurant and I got to witness the kind of german drinking rituals that you see in movies and wonder if it really happens…I have the answer: yes. One table led a song where they ended up raising the table over their head and then got under the table in a different part…it was entertaining to say the least! My last day there, Fabienne had to go to work so I caught a train out of Luzern. I got to spend my last morning strolling around Luzern with Starbucks in hand recalling all the things I did there last summer like it was yesterday. It was perfect. I got to visit one of my best friends I had made this summer and get caught up with our lives while experiencing another european culture!!
Now, I am back in Arezzo and am starting to think about packing. I am done with academic work and performing for the last time tonight. I am so ready to be back to familiar territory and people. I just wish you could’ve been here with me through it all, but can’t wait to tell you all about it in person! Trust me, I took so many pictures, you will feel like you are there!
Until then….
